Social and Cultural Center

2008 - Volla, Naples - Competition First Prize

Community Chip

The lack of squares and public activities creates the opportunity to rethink the social interaction within the city of Volla. Thus, this proposal explores the possibility to create different levels of publicness within the city. The aim of the project is to establish a place for social activities that allow different generations to meet and communicate with each other. Bringing together these different age groups creates a new definition of relationships. The concept is envisioned as an urban park, which is seperated in three semi-public areas yet connected through an auditorium and a gallery. The audiorium roof functions as an open-air theater in which it creates a piazza. The central path crosses all the buildings connecting two different neighbourhoods generating a new public space and a new center into the city.
